Welcome to the
Lancashire & South Cumbria
Cancer Research Network

LSCCRNThe Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Research Network (LSCCRN) operates as part of the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN), which in turn is part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).  We provide researchers with the practical support they need to make clinical studies happen in the NHS, so that more patients can take part in cancer research if they are suitable and choose to do so.NCRN

The LSCCRN was formed in March 2002 to serve our population of approximately 1.5million. At that time there was minimal cancer research taking place, and the Research Network aimed to improve access to high quality research studies.

NIHRThe NIHR has over 500 cancer portfolio studies which include both randomised controlled trials (RCT) and non RCT’s such as observational studies and those involving pre-malignant conditions. We select trials to support from this portfolio based upon our local population needs and local expertise and resources.
Currently the network employs/funds clinical trials nurses/practitioners and administrative teams across the region to support trial recruitment and patient follow up requirements. These team members are based within each local acute Trust, with a core team of staff focussing on setting up new studies. The Network provides a supportive framework in which to strive to meet goals set by the NIHR and focuses on training of personnel and performance management.Commitment to support cancer research within the NHS is required within Cancer Peer Review and the Network encourages and supports local cancer teams to achieve this.

CRPG logoThe LSCCRN also has an established Partnership Group made up of patient volunteers and health professionals which you can read more about under the patient section of this website.
